BiLCEM Researcher Receives Prestigious Awards

Özgür Ergül, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Electronics
Engineering (EEE), has received two prestigious awards in the area of electromagnetics.
The IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society awarded one of five Ph.D. fellowships given to
promising students world wide pursuing a career in electromagnetics; and he has received
the 2007 Leopold B. Felsen Award for Excellence in Electrodynamics - presented by Doğus
University and the Leopold B. Felsen Fund.
Currently, Özgür conducts research studies at BiLCEM - a center of excellence, where
real-life electromagnetics problems are solved by using cutting-edge computing
technologies. His articles have been published in more than 15 journals and he has
produced 65 conference papers in the past 6 years. At the start of 2007, under the
supervision of Prof. Gürel, Özgür and his colleagues broke several world records by
solving extremely large integral-equation problems. The results of this major achievement
have been presented at international conferences and published in top-rated scientific
journals.
Mr. Ergül stated that, "This is a great chance for Bilkent students. BiLCEM welcomes
all undergraduate and graduate students who would like to participate in exciting projects
on parallel computing, programming, and computational electromagnetics."
